With its historic atmosphere, sandy beaches and vibrant arts scene, it’s no wonder that Carmel is a classic choice for those looking to get away from it all for a few days. But before you spend the day with your toes in the sand, take a look at our curated list of the best places to indulge in the most important meal of the day.

This favorite of the valley has been locally owned and operated since the 60s, and their classic western décor is a vibrant showcase of Carmel Valley ranch history, filled with colorful bandanas, rodeo posters, and, you guessed it, wagon wheels. Fresh off the griddle are their beloved dollar-sized Katy cakes, along with warm banana walnut pancakes and their more indulgent pumpkin pie pancakes, complete with cinnamon sugar and pumpkin butter. It is Venmo or cash only, however, so keep that in mind when planning your meal.

A plate of French toast topped with powdered sugar, sliced strawberries, blueberries, and fresh mint leaves. The dish also features a generous helping of bananas cooked in syrup, creating a colorful and appetizing presentation. Truly the best breakfast in Carmel!

This signature restaurant attached to the Carmel Valley Ranch has recently undergone a renovation and reimagining, and is well worth revisiting or checking out for the first time. With a welcoming atmosphere and warm hospitality, you’ll feel right at home as you sip on a glass of fresh-pressed citrus herbal juice. Their malted Belgian waffles drizzled with maple syrup make for a decadent start to any day, while their garden frittata topped with caramelized balsamic onion and goat cheese is a healthier yet still delectable option.
