While autumn in most places means dropping temperatures and wilting leaves, fall in San Francisco usually surprises visitors with pleasant weather and many outdoor activities. After the summer tourist rush but before the holiday bustle, SF’s fog dissipates, the sun makes an appearance and locals shed their layers for Sundays at the farmers market or local parks. September is, in fact, the warmest month on average in San Francisco.
For all you travelers trying to find the best time to visit the city by the bay, we spoke with Tom Wolfe, chef concierge at Fairmont San Francisco, about the advantages of visiting in the fall. When he joined the Fairmont San Francisco in 1974, Wolfe became the first concierge in the United States — yes, you read that right, the first. After some stints at other international hotels, Wolfe still serves the guests of the historic Fairmont on Nob Hill.

Accessible activities for different ages and abilities?
San Francisco is one of the most accessible cities in the country. All of our public places are accessible. May we suggest the Ferry Building for all things culinary, or PIER 39 for restaurants, attractions, sea lions, an aquarium, ferry boats to Sausalito, private sailing adventures and just great fun! For younger folk, The Exploratorium is both accessible and family friendly.
