A luxe lodging choice on the south end of Ka’anapali, the Hyatt Regency Maui was built in 1980 and is popular with families, newlyweds as well as corporate groups. There’s room for everyone at this 40-acre property, comprised of three towers — Napili, Lahaina and Atrium — two pools, seven restaurants, three lounges, a fitness center and the only oceanfront spa on the island. Highlights for kids include a walk-in pool (as in soft sandy bottom) with slide, exotic birds found throughout the property, and a penguin feeding time. One of our favorite things to do with kids (or anyone) is the stargazing course offered on the roof. Tip: once you’ve booked your rooms, book a dinner at Japengo followed by stargazing.
