A group of six people paddle an outrigger canoe on the calm, blue ocean water near Maui. In the background, a distant shoreline features several large buildings, likely some of the best family hotels in Maui, along with palm trees and a mountain under a clear, sunny sky. The water's gentle waves reflect the sunlight beautifully.

Grand Wailea
Wailea, Maui

Ever since its groundbreaking in 1988, the Grand Wailea has been the must-see property in Wailea. The development concept was to create a detached world where guests can free themselves from their daily routine. The open-air lobby features nine larger than life (literally) Fernando Botero sculptures, which combined are worth more than $30 million, free wireless and plenty of ocean views. Subtly is not what The Grand is about; the amusement park quality water slides are an irresistible kid magnet, and for adults the Spa Grande is decadence at its finest. With over 780 rooms and 120 luxury town homes, the scale is très grand. This is the type of resort where you need to get up early to stake your lounge chairs — it’s a party atmosphere by the pool, but you can always find a quiet spot on the beach or hammock.
