The Kona Brewers Festival, a much-anticipated event since 1996, invites craft beer enthusiasts, food lovers, music fans, and cultural aficionados to come together. April-May
The Big Island Chocolate Festival, held each spring, celebrates the art of chocolate. The event features tastings, cooking demos, and a gala, showcasing chocolates from both local and international chocolatiers. Enjoy tastings and live demonstrations by experts on tempering chocolate, making truffles, and incorporating chocolate into dishes. A portion of ticket proceeds often supports local agricultural and educational organizations.
June
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the 27th Annual UCC Coffee Kona Marathon returns to Kona, partnering with Royal Kona Resort and Spa. The event features a full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), quarter marathon (6.55 miles), and 5K (3.1 miles), plus a Health & Fitness Fair and keiki events.
July-August
The annual “grandfather of all big game fishing tournaments” draws teams from around the world competing for the prestigious Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (HIBT) Governor’s Trophy, awarded to the team scoring the highest number of billfish points. This international five-day fishing tournament is the second oldest big game sport fishing event in the world. Spend your days aboard charter boats for some fishing fun.
September
Get your paddles ready for the World’s second-largest long-distance canoe race. The Queen Liliuokalani Long Distance Canoe Races includes a women’s and men’s 18-mile race as well as other unique races. In addition to the competitions themselves, other ceremonies include a torch-light parade, Hawaiian Luau, and more.
October
The Ironman World Championship, held annually in Kailua-Kona every October, is one of the most prestigious and demanding endurance events globally. This triathlon features a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile marathon. The event draws athletes from around the world and showcases the stunning natural beauty of Kailua-Kona.
November
The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival takes place each November, in celebration of the renowned Kona coffee industry. This 10-day festival features coffee tastings, farm tours, cultural events, and a coffee-picking contest, highlighting the region’s ideal growing conditions — volcanic soil, elevation, and climate. Attendees can enjoy live performances, art exhibits, and educational seminars, all while exploring the rich heritage of Kona coffee cultivation.
