Coachman Tahoe, meshing modern with mountain chic, is a renovated motel in the heart of the South Lake Tahoe tourist zone that offers pet friendly rooms and dogs are welcome in all the hotel’s common areas. The hotel has outdoor fire pits and plenty of lounging areas to hang out in between hikes. There is a one-time pet fee of $75. The hotel also offers extras like S’more kits, coffee in the lobby, and electric vehicle charging.

They charge a one-time pet fee per visit of $40 plus tax and dogs are welcome in select rooms and the hotel’s common areas, which include fire pits, a rooftop deck, and a courtyard with ping pong and lawn games. The motel also has an outdoor beer garden and live music nightly.

Desolation Hotel spreads out the royal treatment for canines at both its locations in South Lake Tahoe and its more rustic neighbor resort in nearby Hope Valley. Dog friendly rooms come with food and water bowls and pet waste bags. The historic Hope Valley resort offers a choice of cabins or glamping options like a vintage Airstream trailer or Yurt. Dogs are allowed in all accommodations with a fee of $55 plus tax, per dog, per night.

Hotel Azure is within walking distance of one of South Lake Tahoe’s dog-friendly beach, Regan Beach. This hotel is located in midtown on the South Shore and directly across the street from Lakeview Commons. The hotel charges a $25 per day pet fee.

Tamarack Lodge, Dog Friendly Hotel

Tamarack Lodge, set on four acres outside Tahoe City is a slice of old Tahoe. There is an $18 per night charge per dog with a two dog maximum per room. The lodge requires all dog guests to be good citizens, no barking or aggressive behavior allowed.

This is a resort set in the heart of Incline Village and its list of amenities is long including an “Adventure Specialist” for guided outdoor and wellness activities. The specialists offer lessons in archery, hatchet throwing, line dancing, meditations, and guided hikes to name a few.

West Shore

Lake Tahoe Chalet

With limited accommodations on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore the best option for travelers is vacation rentals. Airbnb has many rentals in the Tahoma area that are dog-friendly. One good choice is the Lake Tahoe Chalet located at the end of a dead-end street next to a meadow has earned a “Guest Favorite” rating on the site.

The Sugar Pine Cottage vacation rental charges $25 a night per dog plus tax with a two dog maximum. Pet owners will find an “Adventures with Your Dog at Lake Tahoe” Guide waiting for them upon check-in with insider tips on all things dog friendly on the West Shore.

Further Afield: Truckee

Just a hop, skip, and jump, outside the Tahoe Basin, lies the Sierra town of Truckee.  Best Western Plus Truckee-Tahoe welcomes up to two dogs in a room. The size limit for a dog is 80 pounds. The pet-friendly rate is $30 per day. Hampton Inn & Suites Tahoe-Truckee also allows up to two dogs per room for a $75 fee for one to four nights and $125 fee for five plus nights. Springhill Suites Truckee charges a $100 per stay for up to two pets with a 75 pound weight limit.
