High up on the cliffs, Big Sur offers panoramic views of the coastline, from the forested mountains, to the rugged landscape, to the natural beauty of the bright blue ocean. Check out our shortlist of restaurants with the best view, where even if you don’t get a window table (although of course, always ask for one) you’re guaranteed to have an excellent vantage point from which to enjoy the Big Sur coast while you dine.

An outdoor coastal restaurant with wooden tables and chairs overlooks the ocean, offering some of the best seafood Big Sur has to offer. There's a fire pit in the center and a glass-enclosed section with more seating to the right. The sky is partly cloudy, creating a picturesque setting.

Situated as part of Post Ranch Inn, Sierra Mar’s glass walls offer diners stunning views of the ocean and the surrounding Big Sur area. The menu is designed to be a balance of land and sea, with salmon sashimi and oysters on the half-shell next to skirt steak with chimichurri and seasonal roasted vegetables. For pairings, Sierra Mar’s award-winning wine list is guaranteed to have something for everyone. Make sure to get a reservation, as they don’t accept walk-ins.

Sit outside under hanging lanterns and heat lamps or indoors in the warm wood dining room and enjoy the view. This gorgeous restaurant is a slightly more casual experience, though still upscale, compared to some of the fancier restaurants in the Big Sur area, and just as delicious. For a taste of the sea, try their Alaskan halibut with red pepper risotto, or go for their famous Ambrosiaburger served on a French roll.
