Kohala Coast, Hawaii
I first came to this property when it opened as a Ritz-Carlton (which means it has good bones) in 1990. What I loved about it then still exists today: beautiful sheltered beach for little swimmers, snorkeling and SUP yoga, a huge pool with lots of room for swogging (swim jogging) and great walking paths along the ocean. And according to the numerous awards from Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure, I’m not the only one who thinks Fairmont has done an excellent job managing this 540-room resort set on 32 oceanfront acres. There area plenty of on-site activities available such as SUP, golf, play tennis and of course, my favorite feature- the award-winning spa.
