MONDAY, APRIL 21

SCHEDULED: Car rental pickup upon arrival; 3pm check-in at Outrigger Kaanapali Resort

CAR RENTAL: Kristen and Matt arrive at Kahului Airport (OGG) at 9:15am (Welcome to Maui!). To expedite picking up your rental car, text Cruisin’ Maui Rent-A-Car at 1-808-866-6284 as soon as you land and then again once you have your bags to alert their shuttle driver, who will pick you up from the baggage claim area.  Your car rental confirmation # is 445893.

PROVISIONS: Regular visitors to Maui almost always stop at Costco on their first day to purchase quite a few made-in-Maui products as well as useful gear for their stay, including bottled water, reef-safe sunscreen, microfiber beach towels, beach chairs, snorkel gear, Hawaiian print sarongs, slippahs (flip flops), Hawaiian print shirts, and, of course, snacks, many of which are unique to Maui. Should you choose to skip Costco upon arrival, consider going on or near your departure day for gifts and souvenirs. It’s unlike any Costco you’ve ever been to.

HOTEL: Using your custom map at below, click on your hotel map pin (top left of the map) for driving directions to the Outrigger Kāʻanapali Beach Resort. Your hotel reservation number is HKL863. The drive is approximately 60 minutes depending on traffic. Getting through Lahaina may be slow; just remember it’s a two lane highway and the views are worth a slow ride.

LUNCH: You won’t be able to check in until 3pm, so here’s what I recommend until then: Go to the hotel, take your swimsuits out of your luggage and place them in a tote bag, then check your bags. Next, walk over to the Maui Brewing Co.  It’s on property, so you can’t miss it.

POOL: Next, take a stroll on the oceanside footpath that runs the entire length of the Kaanapali Resort. Head back to your hotel and change into your swimsuits, then lounge poolside at the Outrigger until your room is ready.

DINNER: You have 6pm table reservations at Mala Ocean Tavern, one of my favorite restaurants on Maui. We’ve requested ocean front, but they are not guaranteed. Arriving a bit early is always helpful and never a hinderance when it comes to special requests.

TUESDAY, APRIL 22

SCHEDULED: 10am breakfast at Plantation House: 5pm dinner at Champagne Hale

BREAKFAST: Plantation House restaurant in Kapalua overlooking the Plantation Course. (this is my all-time favorite place for breakfast on Maui because of the incredible ocean views from your table).

HIKE: Hike Dragons Teeth Trail in Kapalua is a perfect stroll after breakfast. There is a General store in Kapalua worth checking out if you need any last minute sundries and and a wine bar, The Pour House, which opens in the afternoon should you need a cool place to cool off after your stroll. Take the Lower Honoapiilani Highway home to drive along the scenic coastline through neighborhoods and smaller beaches to check out.

DINNER: Early dinner at the Montage’s Champagne Hale.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23

SCHEDULED: 4pm sunset Sail Sea Maui.

Kaanapali Beach day!

BREAKFAST: Start your morning with a healthy breakfast at Choice Health Bar in Kaanapali.

PADDLE & SNORKEL: Visit the Kaanapali Surf Club to rent some paddle boards and snorkel gear. Spend the day in the sand, on the water, or lounging by the pool.  My favorite kind of day in Kaanapali.

SUNSET SAIL: Sunset Sail with Sea Maui. Meet the boat at 4pm at The Kiosk at Whalers Village. Loads of food served so no need for dinner plans. Open bar for those who want to enjoy a few Mai Tais.

Congratulations, you just had the perfect Maui day!

THURSDAY, APRIL 24

SCHEDULED: 9:30am Hailiimaili Pineapple Tour; 1pm Chocolate Tour at Kupaa Farm; 4pm Maui Bees Farm-to-Table Dinner.

TOURS: Head Upcountry in your rental car to experience your farm tours: 9:30 am Maui Pineapple Tour in Haliimaile and 1pm Chocolate Tour at Kupaa Farm. Take a cruise through Maui’s Paniolo town, Makawao as you make your way to Kupaa Farm.  I highly recommend the self guided tours at the Alii Kula Lavender and Kula Country Farm.

DINNER: 4pm Maui Bees Farm-to-Table DinnerThis includes a Farm and Honey Tour concluding shortly after sunset.  You have a bit of a drive home, but there should be minimal traffic.

FRIDAY, APRIL 25

SCHEDULED: 6:30am snorkel trip with Alii Nui Sailing Charters to Molokini; 6:30 dinner Star Noodle

After your snorkel trip to Molokini with Alii Nui Sailing Charters, head back to explore the Cannery Mall in Lahaina either before or after

DINNER: Early dinner at Star Noodle.

SATURDAY, APRIL 26

SCHEDULED: 10am bike rentals at Krank Cycles; 8pm dinner Honu Oceanside.

Self-guided Krank Cycles electric bike tour to the summit of Haleakala volcano, or any mile marker along the way.

LUNCH: Kula Lodge Restaurant at Kula Lodge.  You may opt to depart from Kula Lodge at approximately 3200ft.  Make your way back to the west side so you have time to shower and get ready for an amazing meal at Honu.

DINNER: Honu Oceanside, Justin is my favorite owner, please tell him I said hello if he’s there.

SUNDAY, APRIL 27

SCHEDULED: 3:45pm departure on Hawaiian Airlines Flight HA 24.

Time to head back to the mainland. You’ll want to arrive at the airport at least two hours before your departure, as the security lines can be long. Drop the rental car off where you picked it up at Cruisin’ Maui Rent-A-Car591 Haleakala Hwy, Kahului – and they’ll shuttle you to the check-in area. BE SURE to have ALL YOUR BAGS (including carry-on) scanned at the Department of Agriculture inspection station located in front of the airline check-in counters.

If you want to purchase some local duty-free items to take home, my top picks are Maui Jim (expensive sunglasses but worth it), Tutus Pantry, Maui Hands Gallery, Ooka Farms Retail in Pukulani, and Momona Bakery.

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful getaway to Maui. It was truly my pleasure to be your Getaway Guide, and I hope to see you again soon. Mahalo and a hui hou! ~ Katarina

Katarina’s tip #4:  They also local Hawaii/Maui grown Pineapple.  Maui grown isn’t always available, check the boxes they are stocked in to know what you’re getting.
