You’re on island time here, so kick back, relax, and enjoy all that Hawaii has to offer — cool ocean waters, lush jungles, friendly people and fresh tropical fruit. The locally grown fruits and vegetables are amazing on their own but blend them in the right combination and you may even consider an all-liquid diet. To help you out on your island fruit quest, we’ve compiled some of the best joints to get tasty smoothies and acai bowls.
But wait, there’s more. We’re here to help demystify some of the unusual words you might see on menus like furikake, laulau and lilikoi — and explain which meat is being served and why. And possibly most importantly of all, provide the fun facts on the origins of local dishes.
