And at the forefront of Celebrity’s New Luxury are the newest Celebrity Edge-class ships, which not only raise the standards for elegance and opulence throughout the vessel, but were also purpose-designed to feature The Retreat, the ultimate in luxury resorts at sea. The Retreat — on Celebrity Edge®, Celebrity Apex® and the upcoming Celebrity Beyond℠ (launching 2022) — offer spacious suites, a private restaurant, an exclusive lounge, and amenities including shore excursion credit, premium drinks, streaming Wi-Fi, tips, and onboard credit.
Luminae, the private restaurant in The Retreat, offers a stunning interior that’s as distinctive as the cuisine, as well as menu options not available at any other restaurant on board, including new signature dishes created by Celebrity’s Global Culinary Ambassador Daniel Boulud.
Some of the features on the Edge, Apex and Beyond — including The Retreat, the Rooftop Garden, and the Magic Carpet, the elevating restaurant that extends out over the water — also encourage spacing and a connection to the sea that increase health and safety for guests and the crew.
Along with updated protocols for screening and testing of passengers and enhanced sanitizing measures, the entire staff on Celebrity ships will be vaccinated, and each ship will have fewer guests, at least 95 percent of whom are fully vaccinated. There’s also a two-stage purifying system that filters 100 percent fresh air throughout the ship.
New technology will reduce the need for large gatherings, interaction with staff and the use of touch points (such as door handles and light switches). The upgraded Celebrity Cruises® app for mobile devices allows guests to control the lighting and temperature in cabins, as well as lock and unlock their cabin door. The app can be used to book excursions and make dinner reservations, before and during the cruise, as well as monitor onboard accounts. Passengers will no longer have to gather in large groups for the onboard safety drill thanks to Muster 2.0, which allows guests to watch the mandatory muster video either on the app or on an in-stateroom TV.
Celebrity’s Healthy at Sea protocols are updated frequently to ensure passengers are returning home to their families and friends safely.
Among the itineraries that are up and running, adventurous passengers can experience the exotic wildlife and landscapes of the Galapagos Islands with seven-night trips aboard the 100-passenger Celebrity Flora®, a state-of-the-art, all-suites “mega-yacht.” Romance seekers can soak up Mediterranean culture, history and ease with 10-night itineraries of the Greek Islands and Croatia on Celebrity Apex with stops in Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Dubrovnik.
