It’s the last official full month of summer, and there’s no better place to take advantage than in Tahoe/Truckee. This month, the area welcomes the most beautiful wooden boats to Lake Tahoe in an elegant and upscale boat show. Music and drink fests abound, including a beer, jazz and funk fest, there’s a Bloody Mary competition with the area’s famed local vodka, and a three-day music series every weekend this month. The legendary funk master George Clinton even comes to Truckee for a night. So head up to the mountains this August to catch all the fun!

Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance
August 12-13
This spectacularly stunning wooden boat show returns to the west shore of Lake Tahoe with some of the most well-preserved and restored wooden boats in the world. The event features luxury shopping, live jazz music, gourmet cuisine, a fully stocked bar and a silent auction. Plus, this year marks Chris-Craft’s 100th Anniversary.

Brews, Jazz, and Funk Fest
August 13-14
Get your groove on while tasting a variety of local and regional beers at this drink and music fest in The Village at Palisades Tahoe. Over 10 breweries, like FiftyFifty, Alibi and Moonraker, will be offering tastings throughout the village. Bands, including Rebirth Brass Band, Orgone and Funk Assassination, will perform on two stages.

10th Annual Tahoe Blue Vodka Bloody Mary Competition

Fifteen of the most creative bartenders in the region compete to make the best Bloody Mary — all using the same local spirit: Tahoe Blue Vodka. Enjoy their concoctions on the beautiful beaches of Tahoe while you rock out to live music and DJs on multiple stages at Beach Retreat & Lodge at Tahoe. There will be food available for purchase.

5th Annual Tahoe Brewfest
August 27
Eat and drink your way through this brewfest that features more than 30 breweries, food trucks and live music. Regional craft beers will be flowing from breweries like South Lake Brewing Co., Jackrabbit Brewing Company and Anderson Valley Brewing Company. Tha Exchange will perform its unique blend of funk, soul, jazz and hip hop music and The Tahoe Tribe will perform reggae and rock. Event takes place at Lake Tahoe Community College’s outdoor fields.

Northstar Summer Music Series
Friday-Sundays
Post-mountain biking, beaching, hiking, golfing, swimming — or anything in between, wind down with live music at The Village at Northstar every weekend this month. DJs take the stage Fridays from 5-8 pm. and bands play Saturdays and Sundays from 3-6 pm.

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic
August 14
There’s no better way to end a weekend than moving and grooving to funk master George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic at Truckee Regional Park. Clinton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the foremost innovators of funk music and is a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. His hits include “Loopzilla,” “Atomic Dog,” and “If Anybody Gets Funked Up (It’s Gonna Be You). Special guests Black Rock City Allstars & Tha Exchange will also perform.
